January 5, 12, 19-WOODCARVING taught by Master Woodcarver DAVE DISSELBRETT. What a great way to begin the new year with a resolution to start a new hobby. Learning how to carve basswood with simple tools and expert instruction will make you keep that new year promise. Dave gives individual help with a different project each month. Learn to carve and paint your project. A class for men and women alike.Absolute beginner? Dave has a project for you, too.

Encaustic Workshop

Jan. 10-ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOP taught by DEANNA WHITE. In this new and exciting class you will learn how to make your own bee’s wax paints, learn fusing techniques with wax, and the use of different heating tools in a safe manner. Deanna will cover texture, inlay, and collage techniques. You will work on your own projects at your own pace. At the end of class you will have one or two finished paintings. All supplies are furnished but you may want to bring some of your own personal photos (must be Kinko photo copies, not ink jet), special papers, and any other flat items, such as leaves for collage. Deanna will also bring papers and collage items. Come try Encaustics. You’ll have some fun.

January 12-March 2-COLORED PENCIL taught by various talented artists. If you attended the 2008 Colored Pencil Show at KAA you were able to see the versatility of the pencil. Realism, abstraction, whimsy, landscape, portraiture, and wildlife are all favorites of colored pencil students. In this class you will learn color theory, layering, strokes, use of paper and tools, dry pencil, watercolor pencil and much more. This class shows the student how much fun it is to learn new techniques and stretch your expertise. All levels welcome. Supply list available at Keizer Art Association.

January 12-February 16-ACRYLICS taught by SHIRLEE JOHNSON. In this popular class you will learn how to put spark in your paintings and have fun doing so. Shirlee will teach you how to prepare your canvas for painting and under painting, lost and found edges, cool and warm colors, composition, and glazing. You will learn to work with mud colors and create great paintings. Students return again and again for this enriching class. Shirlee gives each student her time and expertise on a one-on-one basis. January 13-March 3- CALLIGRAPHY taught by PENNY WHITE. This class of beautiful writing continues with the Rustic Alphabet, moving to the Modern Rustic Alphabet.Very attractive and “definite”, the modern alphabet works well with the antique Rustic Alphabet. New students are always welcome in this fun and creative class. Each class concludes with a craft project that adapts to using calligraphy. Born in England, Penny always takes time for a cup of tea in class. So, bring your own cup for a refreshing drink. All levels welcome. Supply list available at Keizer Art Association.

January 13-February 10-PASTELS taught by DEANNA WHITE. Strong shapes and intense, unorthodox color is a trandemark in this local artist’s paintings. Deanna’s painting style of magenta hills, cerulean skies and bright gamboge tree trunks adorn her fantasy expression of the Mid Willamette Valley. Landscape and floral subjects with the occasional still life, make up most of Deanna’s portfolio. She will inspire you to explore and expand your painting skills. January 31-CELTIC BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION & FOLKLORE taught by CATHERINE ALEXANDER. Spend a day going back in time to a magical era when plants had names like feldwyrt, foxesglof, and leonfot. Blending historic traditions with classic illustration techniques, you will explore and experience Merry Olde England through artistic espression.
